What is Apraxia of Speech (AOS)?
AOS is a speech sound disorder. In order for speech to occur, messages need to go from your brain to your mouth. These messages tell the muscles how and when to move to make sounds. When a person has apraxia of speech, the messages do not get through directly. AOS is a neurological disorder that affects the brain pathways involved in planning the sequence of movements in producing speech.
Signs and Symptoms Include:
- Distorting sounds
- Making inconsistent errors in speech
- Difficulty producing longer, more complex words and phrases
- Does not always say words the same way every time
